In 1537 Hairedin Barbarossa, an admiral of the Ottoman empire and buccaneer of the shores of Barbaria, ravages and destroys Paleohora, killing civilians while many prisoners are sold as slaves. Paleohora is completely abandoned. Families who survived or escaped the massacres fled to the surrounding villages.
