The first harbor of Kythera, Kapsali with its twin bays is positively one of the islands most beautiful beaches. The Castle’s dominant position, the beacon on top of the rock, creates a pageant amphitheatrical representation with the small neighboring island of Hitra. Kapsali is the ancient sea port of Hora, Kythera’s capital city. For many years now it has been the center of the island’s nightlife. Its many cafes, bars, restaurants and other shops on the bay create the perfect walk beside the beach, while people saunter along exchanging smiles and greetings. A tourist settlement with many rooms rentals and hotels, it is the place to be in Kythera. The two divine bays are lined with white-washed houses.
Kapsali operates today as an official marina - yachts’ anchoring shelter. As it offers safe harboring and services for small sight-seeing tours through the Kithirean capital, it is often visitable by Mediterranean cruises. It is good to contact the Harbor Master’s Office of Kapsali for better service and information.
On the beach you can pursue sea- and beach sports or visit the neighboring beach of Sparagario by bike or on foot. If you feel up for a longer trip, take a boat-ride in the evening hours to Hitra (or "Avgo"), the rocky island opposite Kapsali, to swim in the sea caves whose waters are illuminated from below.
Here you can truly enjoy a full day with food, coffee or desert and meet your friends. Kapsali, the islands cosmopolitan place, welcomes you.
