Fratsia is a large village that makes up the most central point of the island’s inland. The inhabitants conduct agriculture and livestock breeding. Historically, Fratsia is known for the Agricultural-Livestock Breeding Exhibition which has taken place here for many decades, but has abated during the last years due to the urbanization of the island’s inhabitants’ way of life. The village has large areas for pasturing cattle and also holds some very beautiful old cottages.
Even before merging with the unique Municipality of Kythera, Fratsia has been one of the most active communities. The village’s inhabitants are very progressive. In addition, the member of the Parliament Grigorios L. Kassimatis was born.
Fratsia has a large historical significance for the island’s agricultural life. It harbors many farms which are cultivated until today with a large livestock percentage.
